Tempo, a branch of Minneapolis' Gamble-Skogmo conglomerate, operated stores in the Midwestern and Great Plains states. The chain debuted in 1962, with the ARROWHEAD CENTER store being among the first.

Red Owl supermarkets were also based in Minnesota, with stores located in the Upper Midwest. The chain was acquired by Gamble-Skogmo in the late 1960s.

In our first ARROWHEAD CENTER layout, we see a depiction of the complex in 1962. At this time, it encompassed a modest 70,000 leasable square feet.

TOWN & COUNTRY CENTER opened, in the southern environs of Minot, in 1964. The fully-enclosed shopping complex spanned over 240,000 leasable square feet.

The first (and only) regional-class retail venue in Minot was completed in 1980. DAKOTA SQUARE MALL originally encompassed over 400,000 leasable square feet.
